Marie "Sophie" Sequeira Brown

Marie Sophie Sequeira Brown, 88, passed away at WakeMed Cary on January 25, 2024, with her children at her side.

Sophie was born January 13, 1936 in Bombay, India. She lived in her beloved village of Saligao, Goa, India until 1952, when her family moved to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. There she became a schoolteacher, and later, a secretary at the American Embassy. It was also in Addis Ababa that she met and married the love of her life, Earl Triplett Brown of Leicester, N.C. After they married in 1964, she emigrated to North Carolina where she and Earl built a life for themselves and their children. She was a resident of Concord for almost 50 years and lived in the Cary-Apex area for 10 years.

She was predeceased by her husband in 2008, after 44 years of marriage. She is survived by her children and their families: Cynthia Brown Warner and husband Joe of Nashville, Tenn.; Caroline Brown and husband Curt Stump of Cary; Worth Brown and wife Kathleen of Apex, and Anthony Brown and wife Julie of Kentucky. She was a loving grandmother to Arden Warner, Greta Moser, Kaitlyn O'Brien, Colin O'Brien, Dylan Brown, Kevin Brown, and Siryn Ramirez. She is also survived by brothers Dolfuss Sequeira (Chanda) and Julius Sequeira (Muriel); sisters Cressida Pilgrim (Robert) and Christina Dadlani (Mahesh), all of London, England; and several nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and -nephews who all loved their "Aunty Sophie."

Sophie's family is grateful to the staff of the WakeMed Cary Floor 2 West for their care and kindness during her last illness. Special thanks and gratitude to the staff at the Heartfields of Cary assisted living facility, who cared for and befriended "Miss Sophie" during her last two difficult years.

A funeral mass will be said at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, February 2 at St. James the Greater Catholic Church, followed by burial at the church cemetery. The family will greet friends prior to the service starting at 12:30 p.m.
