Donald Louis Gere, 86, of New Berlin and formerly of Pilot Mountain, N.C. and Sherburne, N.Y., went home to be with his Lord January 17, 2015 at ChaseHealth Nursing Home, New Berlin surrounded by his family.
He was born November 3, 1928 in Brooklyn, the son of Albert and Hazel (Snover) Gere. Donald served in the United States Army from 1946 till 1948 with a tour of duty in occupied Japan.
He owned and operated the Don Gere Nationwide Insurance Agency in Sherburne for over 25 years. He then relocated to North Carolina. Everywhere he went he connected with other horse lovers. He was active in church ministry and enjoyed working in his flower garden and bird watching. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Sherburne and the First Baptist Church of Pilot Mountain, NC.
Donald was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He faithfully prayed for his family. Donald was warm and outgoing with a smile that would light up a room. He lived life joyfully and could often be heard whistling a tune as he went about his day.
Donald is survived by his children Duane Albert Gere and wife Nancy; Donalu Gere Emhof and husband Jeffrey; his grandchildren Thomas & Allison Gere; Elisabeth, Josiah, Will, Louisa, and Adoniram Emhof; his step-children Russell Ashburner (Florence), Rodney Ashburner (Wendy), David Ashburner (Karen), and Julie Ashburner; his brothers Homer Gere (Doris) and Paul Gere (Mary); his sister-in-law Dorintha Gere; his former wife Patricia Miller Gere; and 12 nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Jessie (Krause) Gere, sister Alberta Miller, and brother Howard Gere.
A Graveside Service will be held May 23, 2015 at the Brooklyn Methodist Church Cemetery, Brooklyn PA.

Alzheimer's Association.
