Kenneth Griffis

1938 - 2021

Kenneth Seeley Griffis, 82, of Wilmington, NC, passed away on September 21, 2021, due to his long time battle with dementia.
Ken was born on October 28, 1938, in Montrose, to the late Robert T. and Gertrude W. Griffis. He was in construction all his life, starting out at his family business, R.T. Griffis & Sons in Montrose. Ken continued his career working for Crowder Construction and Miller Building in North Carolina.
Ken will be remembered for his love of golf, Nascar, traveling, coffee ice cream and frequenting Dunkin' Donuts with his friends.
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 53 years and 364 days, Leesa; two daughters, Tania and husband Dean Sholar of Wilmington, NC, Shelly and husband Thomas Contento of Titusville, FL.; daughter-in-law, Mona Griffis of Durham, NC.
Ken was a wonderful grandfather and PaPa G to his grandchildren Alex and wife Allie Griffis of Raleigh, NC, Danielle and husband Dustin Vandenberg of Las Vegas, NV, and Presley and Fletcher Sholar of Wilmington, NC. Ken had three brothers, Robert "Bobby" Griffis, Stanley and wife Linda Griffis both of Montrose, and Retired Major Thomas and wife Marilyn Griffis of Hartford, AL; as well as special family friends Donna and David Passmore; and many nieces and nephews.
Ken is proceeded in death by three sons, infant son Peter, and Michael and Spencer Griffis.
The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and assistants of Lower Cape Fear LifeCare center that were wonderful in his last days.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like tributes in honor of Ken to be made to the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Center, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401
The family will plan a memorial at a later date in his hometown of Montrose.
