Joseph Casey Obituary

Joseph Francis Casey

88, died peacefully on December 8, 2013. Joseph was born to Patrick and Agnes Casey on Easter Sunday, April 12, 1925. He was the fourth of eight children born to his parents, who emigrated from County Kerry, Ireland in 1922. A life-long resident of Indianapolis, he attended St. John's grade school and Manuel High School. He married Marie Bridget McShane on June 14, 1947, in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel of Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral. Sadly, Marie died on February 26, 1954 at age 28. Joe married Rose Ann Walpole on May 5, 1978, in St. John the Evangelist Church. Rose Ann also preceded him in death when she died on October 1, 1992. Joe was employed by General Motors, Chevrolet and later Allison Engine, for 55 years. Throughout his life, he was devoted to the Catholic Church, especially to the priests of the Archdiocese of Indianapolis and the monks of St. Meinrad Archabbey. Joe loved the Irish community of St. John the Evangelist Church.

An avid hand ball player, he lived a long and healthy life. He was proud of his Irish heritage and of the commitment to faith and family that he helped in handing down to future generations. Joe is survived by his son, Rev. Noah J. Casey, and his two sisters Helen M. (Casey) McGrath (Robert) and Patricia A. (Casey) Beidelman, who cared for him beautifully in his later years. He was preceded in death by his parents Patrick and Agnes, and his siblings Mary Leen (William), Thomas (Louise), John, Edward (Rose), and James (Mary). Joe will be commended to God's loving care in heaven beginning with visitation at Oakley-Hammond Funeral Home- Moore & Kirk Chapel , 5342 E. Washington Street, Indianapolis, on Sunday, December 15th from 3:00 to 7:00 pm. A vigil service with prayer and words of remembrance will begin there at 7:00 pm. Visitation will resume at Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 126 W. Georgia Street, Indianapolis, on Monday, December 16th from 1:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m. followed immediately by the Funeral Mass at 2:00 pm. Committal will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations may be made in Joe's memory to St. John the Evangelist Church or Saints Peter and Paul Cathedral in Indianapolis or to St. Meinrad Archabbey in St. Meinrad, IN.
