Robert Berkshire Obituary

Robert B. Berkshire A celebration of Robert B. Berkshire's life will be held at the Herron School of Art and Design Eskenazi Hall, 735 West New York Street, in the Robert B. Berkshire Gallery on Sunday, March 6 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Berkshire, abstract expressionist painter and professor emeritus at Herron School of Art and Design, died on December 17, 2010. He was born in 1932. An Indianapolis native, he was a scholarship student at the John Herron Art Institute, graduating in 1954 with a diploma in fine arts. A Fulbright Fellowship funded his year-long studies in Italy.He earned a master's degree in fine arts from Florida State University in 1958 and returned to Indianapolis to teach at Herron. He remained a beloved member of the faculty until his retirement in 1996. He had a zest for life, a passion for art and music and a wit as energetic as his brush strokes. His laughter could fill a room. Please call the school at 317-278-9469 if you plan to attend the remembrance. Per his request, donations may be made in his memory to the Herron School of Art and Design.
