Ruah Suer Obituary

Ruah Loraze Brackett Suer was born in Evansville, IN on October 20, 1916 to Ruah Mae (Little) and William Truman Brackett, who preceded her in death. She has one sister, Mrs. Wilfred Schroer of Newburgh, IN, a brother-in-law, and three nephews, Michael, Larry and John Schroer. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Wm. Edward Taylor of Evansville, IN, by her second husband, Dr. Robert E. Suer of Cincinnati, and Wilmington, OH, and in 1979 by her daughter, Amy Jo Suer. She is survived by five children, Jeri Cecile Taylor of Sea Ranch, CA, Jay Gordon Taylor of Indianapolis, IN, Dr. Anna Lynn Suer of Oakland, CA, Dr. Robert P. Suer of Muncie, IN, and Stephen R. Suer of Sacramento, CA. She has fourteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In 1946-57 she taught mathematics at the Indianapolis Extension Division of Purdue University. In 1958 she was appointed to the full-time faculty of what was then the extension Division of Indiana University, and which in 1969 became part of Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI). She taught mathematics there until her retirement in 1981 as Professor Emeritus. She was a member of the Indiana Academy of Science and Sigma Xi. She has been a member of the First Presbyterian Church since 1956, and sang in the choir. She belonged to the Society for the Friends of Music and sponsored several students through the IU International Center. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Allen Funeral Home, Bloomington. Private family interment will be held at Valhalla Memory Gardens at a later date.
