ALLEN SHORE Obituary

SHORE
ALLEN M., December 10, 1927 - August 31, 2015. Born in Logan, North Philadelphia, the youngest of a poor family of six, Allen attended Central High School and upon graduation, served in World War II as an army sergeant and served in Europe. Upon his return, he successfully matriculated and graduated from the Wharton School of Business of Pennsylvania with a business degree. He served many years as an electronics salesman, later becoming a successful entrepreneur, including real estate, children's camps and other businesses. His true love was acting and Broadway musicals. He performed with the Stage Crafters in Chestnut Hill and then became a successful Broadway producer, producing Driving Miss Daisy, Forever Plaid, Honky Tonk Nights and Sugar Babies. He was twice honored by the William Portner Lodge of B'nai B'rith as "Man of the Year" once for his efforts on behalf of the lodge's national youth services division.
A true renaissance man, he is survived by his six grand-children and three children that he loved. He met his wife, Joan Shore, and had an amazing union for over 53 years until she passed in 2007. Graveside Services Friday 10:30 A.M. precisely at Shalom Memorial Park, Huntingdon Valley. Donations may be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 125 S. 9th St., Ste 202, Phila., Pa., 19107.

I love and honor you and hold dear the wonderful moments of deep concern, love, and inspiration you consistently expressed to me throughout my life.

One thing sums it up: You gave me a simple elegant drawing by Duchamp with a bicyclist going uphill with a blank music sheet background with the phrase "Avoir l'Apprenti dans le Soleil" written at the bottom which translates an appropriate message to me for that time when I was under great medical challenges at a young age: "To Have the Apprentice in the Sun"

It mirrored that I was an avid bicyclist, young, with my full life ahead of me and here was an elegant hopeful wish that I persevere through my challenges--up the hill in the and bright optimistic sunlight.

I still feel that I never got the opportunity to show you how much I loved you when you were alive and I hope you can feel it now as I miss you dearly.

Your son, Ric

Uncle Allen always cared about my welfare and always was genuinely interested in how everyone in my family was doing. When we talked, I sometimes felt he almost consciously tried to channel his deceased brother Sidney's spirit of love, concern, and humor through his words and attention because he knew I needed that. I miss talking to him about politics, culture, and our family history. I miss his laugh and his love of life.

I miss my dad every day and hope he is at peace, with my mom. He was a wonderful man filled with love and adventure.

Having met Allen shortly after moving to Philadelphia and into the Dorchester in 2001, I have had the pleasure of knowing him and enjoying his company as a neighbor in our building. I will miss him and our fun-filled conversations very much. My condolences to his family and dear one.
