Family and Friends,
As one year has passed I struggle to understand what is to be learned from this tragic loss; nothing seems to fill that space where John was a part of my day.
The grieving process is a long road of obstacle, awareness and acceptance. My hope is to find the peace that John has been given; he is not alone, he is comforted and he is in good hands.
I hope that all of us remember, each and every day the blessing of being surrounded by those we love and trust. My prayers are with you.
Peace.

To all my family and friends,
My name is Dylan James Witt, Johns youngest brother, also brother to Erika and Sean witt. It has and still proves to be difficult for me to post my feelings about the loss. And as the one year anniversary of the tradgedy approachs, I decided that it is now that i must let my feelings out. I don't know how to make sense of it all, logically it is puzzling to me beyond belief. Yet, I feel that from this I learned how to deal with such pain and loss. Through my daily life, my memories of him pop up unexpectedly and help me continue to endure. Its the music, the humor, and the love that he shared to me, the D-Nator, as John would say. And i know now more than ever that I have my friends and family right there next to me, and that is the one comfort that can't be replaced. I realize as I write this today, that i needed to get this out, because i know that you, mr. 3000, are in good hands, you are at peace, and that you are watching over me. Peace out from your bro, the D-Nator.

Dear Bill and family,
I am moved by the outpouring of love and sympathy I see in these pages. Over this past month, I have had the opportunity to connect with people from John's life that I had heard about for so many years but never had the opportunity to meet. Seeing these messages from friends and family across the country just reinforces to me how much love John had to give that he made us all feel so special in his life. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dear Bill & Family - It's only been a few years since I have gotten to know each of you and in that short time it is obvious to me what wonderful people you all are. Though I never met John, I am certain that he was a wonderful man and son and brother and friend. I am so sorry for the loss that all of you are experiencing. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

John was a fantastic addition to our med school class: always full of energy, always smiling, always ready with a laugh. I didn't know him well, but I'll remember him and miss him. His passing is impossibly sad. Our thoughts and hopes are with you.

John was an amazing person and someone who touched me personally with his kindness and friendship when I first moved to Brookfield. My deepest sympathy for your family.

September 11, 2006
Hello everyone, my name is Sean Witt. I am Johns brother. It was a tragic thing to happen. I'm not very good at this type of entry, but there is one way I can say what i mean. I wrote this for John:
Barely,
I knew you.
And now,
You've gone.
A cruel wind sweeps,
As the sky unloads the rain.
Your father,
ripped and tormented,
By the loss
of his own.
As My Father,
Our Pillar of Strength,
Crumbles and Shakes.
Take your leave,
Sleep well my brother.
For by the Grace of God,
Peace has consumed thee.
Thank you.

Vyacheslav Dashivets
September 9, 2006
My name is Vyacheslav Dashivets. I was an exchange student in 2004-2005 and I had an honor to enter the Witt family - I became a part of it. I had a pleasure to meet Bill Witt’s eldest son John, who always stayed with us – he did a great job keeping in touch and he always had us in his heart. John was definitely alike Bill – he even looked the same and it seemed he always was in a great mood. I remember the day I met him – John was easy to get on with. There are people, who somehow attract you, because they have an appeal for most of the other people. I can say John was one of them. Unfortunately I didn’t have much time to spend with him. I am happy I knew him in my life. When I found out what happened from the letter I couldn’t even believe my eyes – John shouldn’t have left this world in this age. I believe he would become a strong person – a leader, strong and experienced just like Bill. It’s always horrible to receive news like that. It’s a pity God didn’t give John the second chance. In the end I want to say, that I am proud of John’s achievements in his life. He is a Man.

Dear Witt family, I cant say how sorry i am for your loss, even though i didnt ever get a chance to meet John, if he's anything like you guys and im sure he is, he was a great person. I cant thank you guys enough for all you have done for me. Dylan last year was really hard on me and you were always there for me, that goes for you to sean. You guys are like my brothers and i love you both very much. Erika, youve been like a sister to me thanks for everything. Mrs witt i always enjoy talking to you, and your a great cook. Lastly, Mr. Witt i dont know how many times ive come crying to your door step, and not once have you let me down. You are one of the most intelligent people i have ever had the honor to be associated with, and you are a fantastic father. I know John saw all the great things in you that i see. Thanks again for always being there for me and treating me like your own. I send my best wishes to you and your family. I love you all. sincerly, your daughter, and sister in spirit.

TO JOHN'S FAMILY: I DIDN'T KNOW THIS YOUNG MAN BUT FROM ALL THE WONDERFUL THINGS SAID ABOUT HIM I CAN TELL THAT HE WAS ONE OF A KIND. I SELECTED A POEM THAT I THOUGHT REALLY EXPRESSED WHAT A WONDERFUL YOUNG MAN HE WAS. IT SEEMS THAT HE LIVED THE LIFE THAT GOD HAD WANTED HIM TO LIVE AND TOUCHED SO MANY LIVES IN A POSITIVE WAY. I PRAY THAT GOD WILL WRAP HIS LOVING ARMS AROUND EACH OF YOU AS YOU GO THROUGH THIS DIFFICULT JOURNEY OF LETTING JOHN GO AND BE WITH HIS HEAVENLY FATHER.
CAROLYN MURPHY
September 2, 2006
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

As I read Tuesday's paper and was taken by the fact that such a young man was taken from this world. It was even more of a shock to realize that I knew this young man. My heart is breaking for you! I had the privilege of knowing John since before high school and being friends with him (even though I was a Brookfield East student - he was Brookfield Central - he never let me live that one down). I distinctly remember watching him and a few of the guys play a concert for one of our summer youth group nights. He always had a huge smile on his face (and something funny to say) and made everyone laugh and smile around him. He was always able to make the best of any and every situation. I will miss him dearly. Know that I am praying for you and holding you close to my heart. Praying for you, Sarah

Erika Witt
August 30, 2006
My name is Erika Witt. I am, for those of you that didnt know me, Johns only sister. I have been Johns only sister for my whole 22 years of life, and I loved my brother just as much as I love my father, mother and my other two younger brothers. Although I did not have the opportunity to be as close with him through the years I was growing up, we made that up when we both got older. I always knew that no matter what I could go to John with anything. He was just like my father(Bill Witt), a person that I could trust my life with, and go to when I needed anything at all. As the years passsed, I knew that my brother and father a formed a strong relationship. They talked on the phone almost daily, and I knew that every time the green bay packers were playing, that my father would recieve a phone call from John during half-time. When John came to tulsa last time, I can remember just sitting there and watching my father and brother interact, and its was just unbelievable. My brother and father talked the same, they acted the same, they moved the same, they thought the same, they even shared the same name, they looked the same, and they loved life the same. My father is the greatest man that I have ever known, and I dont say that because he is my father. My brother John inherited those traits, and I am blessed to have been apart of his life. I am so proud of what he has accomplished in his life, its something that you are so greatful for as a sibling. John is just as much a part of my father as I am, and through our talking it was incredibly noticable. He was a great person, and I will miss him very much, but I know that part of him will always be with me, through our father. When I found out what had happened, I couldnt breath, because I knew that I would have to see my father mourn. As a child, that is the hardest thing to see, because our father, not only to us, was our rock, but to many other people across this country. I know my brother loves my father, and I know that my brother loves me, and we love him more than anything in this world. Family is the most important thing that you can have, and I am truly blessed to be a part of the family that I am. God couldnt have given my brothers and I a better family in the world. My mother and father are what brought me into this world, and that can never change. So simply, I just want the world to know, that by this, I am honoring one of the greatest men ever to have lived, and I am priviliged and extremely proud, to call him, MY BROTHER.
