SUE SADWIN Obituary

SADWIN
SUE MATNEY, ESQ.

6/4/35 - 11/17/18. Life is a journey, not a destination and part of who we are is how we got here. Sue's journey started on 6/4/35 in Matneytown, WV. A child of the depression, she was the 11th of 14 children. Her father was a Baptist Minister and her mother a farm wife. Always a precocious child, Sue knew that the narrow opportunities presented by the rural communities in the mountains and hollows of her youth could not contain her dreams so she moved to Chicago. While working as a secretary there, she met a young medical student named Arnold Sadwin and her journey was about to move up a gear. Sue and Arnie were married in 1955 and through his internship and residency they moved to Miami; Detroit where they welcomed Donna their first child; Drexel Hill, PA where their son Stu was born; and finally built their home in Cherry Hill, NJ where they welcomed their third child, Lori, to begin family life in earnest. Despite the demands of being a housewife and the mother of three young children, Sue began taking college courses and graduated Summa Cum Laude from Rutgers University. She continued on to Rutgers Law School graduating with honors in 1976. She embarked on a successful law career, but her family was always her first priority. With her husband and family she traveled extensively visiting over 40 countries and six continents. Her travels continued up until the death of her husband Arnold after more than 59 years of marriage. Sue was a brilliant, elegant, graceful woman whose defining characteristics were her kindness, consideration, conscientiousness, and her generosity of spirit. All those whose lives she touched were enriched by the experience. From the hollows of West Virginia to the Grand Pyramid of Cheops, Sue was a Friend, Wife, Mother, Scholar, Lawyer, Grandmother, and World Traveler. This branch of Sue's journey ended on November 17th as she succumbed to the ravages of mesothelioma. As in life, in her passing she was surrounded by her loving family. It was an incredible journey, a life well lead. She was an extraordinary woman. Sue is survived by her children, Donna, Stuart (Valerie), and Lori O'Leary (Paul); her grandchildren, Michael O'Leary, Allyson Sadwin, Noel Sadwin, and Moya O'Leary; her sister Naomi Smith; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family and many loved ones. Relatives and friends are invited Monday beginning 12:15 P.M. to PLATT MEMORIAL CHAPELS, INC. 2001 Berlin Road, Cherry Hill, NJ where Funeral Services will begin promptly at 1:00 P.M. Int. Locustwood Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions in her memory can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, www.stjude.org.
