JAMES BERGMAN Obituary
Jim was born on May 5th, 1939 on the family farm in Spring Valley, North of Riverton, Nebraska to Howard and Marjorie (Patton) Bergman, the second of three children.
He departed this life on May 1st, 2019 in Darwin, CA at his home with his wife, Kristy Bowman, by his side.
He was baptized and a member of the Spring Valley Methodist Church. He attended the Spring Valley School through the eighth grade, then graduated from Franklin High School in 1957.
In the fall of 1957 he joined the U.S. Navy and was stationed aboard the USS Princeton, an aircraft carrier, as a radioman and traveled the seas for several months. He was stationed in San Diego, CA, when he met his first wife, Muriel. To this union four children were born; daughter, Dale and Jeff Sullivan; son, Byron and Marcia Bergman; daughter, Amy and Virgil Robertson and Audrey, and Jeff Harris. Also surviving are five grandchildren, Tyler, Christian, and Dustin Robertson and Trevor and Jennifer Tess Sullivan.
While living in California he was a plumber. He eventually acquired a contractor's license and opened his own business, J.B. Construction in 1979. He then worked at Lyon Homes for several years as a Supervisor. He was also a member of the Elks Lodge in Fullerton, CA.
After retiring he moved back to Nebraska and lived on the family farm in Spring Valley. He loved being on the pond where, with Byron's help he built a deck overlooking the pond. Many picnics and fun times with family and friends were held there. He spent many hours building a tire home. It was not completed.
He purchased the old Miner's Union Hall in Darwin, CA and turned it into the his residence and a Dance Hall. Many gatherings were held there. He loved hunting, fishing, hiking, camping, and golf.
He is survived by his sisters, Jolene and Ralph Sindt and Janea and Bill Kahrs and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Also surviving are Kristy's children, Chad and Tracey Kroll of Richmond, VA; Jeff and Julie Pomegranate of Palm Springs, CA, Greg and Joanne Pokorny, and son Jarod of Bath, PA.
A memorial service will be held in Darwin, CA. Cremation was chosen followed by a scattering of ashes at the Darwin Cemetery.
