Leon Spier Obituary

Leon V. Spier, 94 years of age, of Beatrice, passed away at the Good Samaritan Center in Beatrice Thursday morning, Nov. 13, 2008. He was born on Sept. 21, 1914, at Steinauer to Frederick and Josephine (Wenzl) Spier.

He served his country in the United States Army during World War II as a Medic. Leon, landed on Normandy Beach and was a Disabled American Veteran. He had worked as an electrician and a farmer throughout his life. He moved to Steinauer from Oregon in 1965 and then to Beatrice in 1979. Leon and Marjorie were married on Dec. 23, 1979 in Beatrice. He was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ at rural Steinauer.

Survivors include his wife Marjorie Spier of Beatrice; sister-in-law Ina Spier of Pawnee City; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Fredrick and Josephine (Wenzl) Spier; six brothers and two sisters.

Cremation has taken place and further services will be held at a later date. Messages of condolence may be sent to http://www.griffithshovendick.com">www.griffithshovendick.com . The Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice has been entrusted with these services.
