LUIS "CUCHILLO" AVALOS
Oct. 21, 1942 - Dec. 31, 2007
Luis M. Avalos was born October 21, 1942 in Guadalajara, MX to Luis and stepmother, Teresa Avalos and following a 20 month courageous battle with cancer, he passed on Monday, December 31, 2007 at Pioneers Memorial Hospital in Brawley.
Luis moved to El Centro in 1957 where he lived with his adopted family, Don Patricio and Petra "Chuy" Martinez and their four children. It was here that he met and later married Catalina Curiel in 1968. He was employed as a cook before going on to work as a box stitcher for 20 years with Admiral Packing and finishing off as a truck driver for Corral Cleaners for 20 years.
Luis enjoyed being the family chef and was the #1 Dodger fan. Above all he was a great person, loving husband, father and grandfather who brought joy to his family everyday.
Visitation will be held Monday, January 7 form 6 to 9 p.m. at Hems Brothers Mortuary in El Centro, with Rosary being said at 7 p.m.
Mass will commence at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 8 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in El Centro with Father Emilio Magaña officiating. Burial will be private.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Luis is survived by his wife, Catalina; children, Lorena, Araceli and Luis and their spouses; his grandchildren, Karina, Amy, Anthony, Michelle, Madison, Elena, Omar and numerous nieces and nephews.

Papi Luis you are missed and definetly loved by all of us...You are the best man GOD ever placed in my life and i will keep it that way, no one will ever take your place! I promise i will pray to you every morning i wake and every night before i sleep. Im in pain because you are gone but glad your in a better place and actually resting, i cant wait to be with you again grandpa please keep a spot open for me! Love you and Miss you.
