Barbara Gregory Obituary

Barbara B. Gregory, 85

Long time Lafayette resident Barbara Betscher Gregory, 85, passed away on December 25th on Hilton Head Island, S.C. after a long battle with cancer. She was born on the family farm in Harrison, Ohio, September 1, 1927, the eldest child of Paul J. and Ann Betscher.

She graduated from Mount Saint Joseph in Cincinnati and attended The Ohio State University. She married the late Paul N. Gregory in 1950, and moved to Lafayette in 1954 when her late husband was transferred to Lafayette by Eli Lilly. Barbara was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and the Lafayette Country Club. She worked for Sears for many years in advertising and sales, retired in 1986 and moved to Hilton Head where she collected antiques, earned her silver life master in bridge and kept Jack Russell Terriers.

She is survived by her sister Margaret Betscher, of Cincinnati; brother, John Betscher (Wauneta), of Greenville Ill.; sons, Thomas, (Janet), of Tampa, Paul (Penny), of Ft. Wayne, Peter, of Hilton Head S.C. and Mark (Martha), of Plantation, Fla. She was especially proud of her grandchildren, Captain Andrew Gregory U.S. Army and USMA, West Point graduate, Justin Gregory, graduating in May from Purdue University, both from Ft. Wayne, and Taylor Swain, of Lafayette also graduating in May from Indiana University. She was also survived by nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held in Lafayette in the spring with burial at St. Mary's Cemetery. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Hospice Care of the Lowcountry, P.O. Box 3827 Bluffton, SC 29910 or Hilton Head Humane Association, P.O. Box 21790 Hilton Head Island, S.C. 29925.
