Jerry Martin Wallace

1943 - 2021

Jerry was born in Halifax County, NC and later moved to Jacksonville, NC where he graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1962. He then attended East Carolina University (then East Carolina College) where he played freshman football on a student athlete scholarship. The highlight of his college years was being a brother in his beloved fraternity, Kappa Alpha Order, Gamma Rho Chapter. There he forged many close lifelong friendships. After college graduation in 1966, with a BSBA degree, Jerry began his career as a comptroller with Mutual Broadcasting in New York, NY and Washington DC. In 1980, he became Executive Director at Shaw, Pittman Law Firm in Washington, DC. In 1999, he and his wife, Diane, moved to New Bern where he was the office manager for Ward and Smith Law Firm until retirement. Jerry married Diane Robinson on August 15, 1992.
He died on February 10, 2021, at Onslow Memorial Hospital from complications of Covid-19.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Francis Newsome Adams of Clarksville, GA; his father, Martin Edward Wallace; brothers, Ray and Doug Wallace of Jacksonville. He is survived by his wife, Diane (who has been by his side for over 30 years and loved him every second of every day); daughter, Sonya Scott, and two grandsons, Caleb and Brodie, of Bessemer, AL. He is also survived by his goddaughter, Gay Stevens of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by two sisters, Sue Wallace Thompson of Clarkesville, GA, Gina Adams of Hampton, VA; brother, Randy (Yvonne) Wallace; sister-in-law, Vicki Wallace of Jacksonville; and several nieces and nephews. Jerry would want to let all of his Kappa Alpha brothers know that he received a call from Doc telling him to be waiting on the side of I-95 where Henry would be picking him up for an important KA reunion and he couldn't refuse. Jerry is now free to run, walk or ride with friends and family he has not seen in a long time. If he asks where Diane is, just tell him, "I'm on my way…just running late!"
