CARLOS RAUL SIIVA Carlos Raul SiIva, M.D., 94, passed away on August 14, 2014 while visiting his family. Dr. Silva is survived and will be missed by his loving wife of 65 years, Mary; his son, Raul, and his daughter-in-law, Dinohra; his daughter, Martha Welch, and his son-in-law, Matthew Welch; his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth; his nine grandchildren, Carlos Eugenio, Lilia, Victoria, Jess, Erika, Carolyn, Jessica, Kevin, and Ryan; his two great-grandsons, Carter, and Mason; and his sister, Rosa Gonzalez. He is predeceased by his eldest son, Carlos Albert. Dr. Silva was born in Madrugas, Cuba and later received his medical degree from the Universidad de La Habana. Dr. Silva completed his internship in New Jersey, where he met his wife. They returned to Placetas, Cuba in 1949 and married. Together they went on to open La Clinica Moderna, where Dr. Silva practiced as a General Surgeon until 1961, when the family fled Cuba. For three decades, Dr. Silva faithfully served the residents of Hudson County as a General Surgeon practicing at St. Mary's Hospital, Englewood Hospital, and Meadowlands Hospital until he opened his private medical practice in West New York. In 1989, Dr. Silva retired and moved to Highland Beach, Florida and ultimately Hillsboro Beach, Florida, where he spent his days gardening, writing poetry, playing dominoes, and watching CNN. In May 1996, the Medical Society of New Jersey awarded Dr. Silva with the Golden Merit Award for 50 years of distinguished service to the medical community. In November 2006, Dr. Silva received recognition for his continued services as a Physician to the people of Placetas, even after having gone into exile. He also received various accolades for his poetry. In honor of all he did for so many, his life will be celebrated at Barrett Funeral Home, 148 Dean Dr., Tenafly, NJ on Sunday, August 17, 2014 from 4-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 10 County Rd., Tenafly on August 18, 2014 at 10 AM. Entombment Madonna Cemetery, Fort Lee.
