JOHNSON CITY - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Douglas A. Lowrie, a beloved husband, esteemed bank president, and United States Air Force veteran. Doug departed this world on October 12th, 2025, leaving a legacy of generosity, philanthropy, and unwavering love for his wife of 58 years, Judy, and all creatures, great and small.

Born on September 27th, 1937, Doug grew up in a very modest household with his father, mother, and two siblings. He attended Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, Florida. After proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force, he transitioned into a very successful career in the banking industry, eventually rising to the prestigious position of President and CEO of SunBanks of South Florida. He was educated in accounting and banking at the University of Miami and the LSU School of Banking. His astute leadership and steadfast dedication earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and the community he served, as he was the bank president, owner of Star Motors Mercedes-Benz Dealership in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and a real estate & stock market investor. Looking for a simpler life, Doug and Judy moved to Washington County, Tennessee, in 1993, where they operated a horse and cattle farm until 2005, when they relocated to Johnson City.

Doug always had an unwavering commitment to philanthropy, yet he possessed an unassuming nature that shied away from the spotlight. His acts of generosity were countless, but his true satisfaction came from seeing the positive impact his actions had on others. Many lives were touched personally and through his quiet support of various charitable organizations and community initiatives.

Though Doug had a distinguished professional life, it was his love and devotion to his wife, Judy, that truly defined him. Their partnership was built

on unconditional love, mutual respect, and unwavering support. The bond they shared was a testament to the power of true love and inspired all who were fortunate enough to witness it.

Along with his love for Judy, Doug had a deep affinity for animals. He always opened his heart and home to four-legged companions, nurturing and cherishing them as family members. His compassion also extended to wildlife, as he actively supported organizations dedicated to animal rescue, welfare, and conservation efforts.

In remembering Doug, we honor a man whose humility, kindness, and generosity touched the lives of many. While he may have preferred to remain behind the scenes, his legacy of benevolence will continue to shine brightly. Doug's unwavering dedication to his community, country, and loved ones is a poignant reminder of the importance of selflessness and compassion.

Doug is survived by his beloved wife, Judith D. Lowrie; his daughter, Lynn J. Lowrie; his grandchildren, Brian Lowrie, Nicolas Lowrie, Sophie Wampler, and Emma Wampler; and his great-granddaughter, Evelyn Claire Lowrie. He was preceded in death by his Father, Arthur N. Lowrie; Mother, Beatrice S. Lowrie; Son, Douglas A. Lowrie Jr.; Brother, Albert G. Lowrie; and Sister, Phyllis Poulin.

A private memorial service was held to honor Doug's life in accordance with his wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Washington County Johnson City Animal Shelter in honor of Doug's commitment to philanthropy and love for animals.
