BAY - Evelyn Rogers, 94, of Bay, passed from this life Monday, July 1, 2024, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. Born in Alabama, Evelyn moved with her family to the Searcy area in 1940 and then to the Bay area in 1952 where she lived the remainder of her life.
She was a homemaker and longtime member of Elm Grove Missionary Baptist Church and Broadway Avenue Missionary Baptist Church where she formerly taught a Sunday school class. She loved helping in children's Sunday school and various areas where she was needed.
Evelyn loved church potlucks, Sunday afternoon visits with church friends and gathering after Sunday evening church services at friends' homes to sing and praise God.
Evelyn loved to read her Bible daily and was a prayer warrior. She enjoyed working in her garden and canning the fruits of her labor. She enjoyed sewing for many years for herself and her family and was a very meticulous housekeeper. But the biggest joy Evelyn received was fixing meals and hosting family gatherings in her home.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Rogers, a son, Allen Rogers, two sisters, Esther Romans and Elma Bridges, three brothers, Buddy Reynolds, Thomas Reynolds and Mack Reynolds, and three grandchildren, Charles Townsley, Amy Elizabeth Rains and Rachel Michelle Rains.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Harvey and Julie Rogers of Bay; three daughters and their husbands, Margaret Patrick of Munford, Tenn., Donna and Paul Rains of Paragould and Paula and Bill Barnhill of Jonesboro; a sister, Billie Bemis of Alabama; four grandchildren and their spouses, Aleshia (Chris) Radcliffe, Kristen Rains, Jerrod (Shelby) Barnhill and Chelsea (Davis) Butterworth; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today, June 3, at Emerson Memorial Chapel with Brother Rick Jansen officiating. Burial will follow in Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will precede the funeral service from 1 to 2 p.m. in the chapel.
Pallbearers will include Davis Butterworth, Jonathan Owens, Skip Boatwright, Chris Radcliffe, Jerrod Barnhill and Donnie Rodgers.
For lasting memorials, the family asks that consideration be given to the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House, 400 East St., Jonesboro 72401.
