Carmen Perez Obituary

Carmen H. Perez (Ocasio), 75, of South Windsor, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018, at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Nov. 26, 1943, in Comerio, Puerto Rico, daughter of the late Julio and Juanita (Bermudez) Huertas. Carmen was a resident of the South Windsor community for over 43 years after moving from Hartford. She was a communicant of St. Margaret Mary Church. She worked for many years as a case worker for the State of Connecticut Department of Social Services. After retirement she touched the lives of many for the Manchester Board of Education at the Washington Elementary School in Manchester. Carmen enjoyed crocheting, cooking, and spending time with her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister.

She is survived by three children, Manuel A. Ocasio and his wife, Carol, of South Windsor, Melissa Cordeiro and her husband, David, of Vernon, and Julio A. Ocasio and his wife, Deborah, of East Hartford; seven grandchildren, Danny, Brianna, Casondra, Michael, Christian, Jonathan, and Braiden; four great-grandchildren, Kayden, Hannah, Landon, and Harper; a sister, Lucy Marrero and her husband, Santos, of Orlando, Florida; and several nieces nephews, cousins, and especially her beloved dog, Lily Rose.

Relatives and friends may join the family for visiting hours Friday, Nov. 30, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Samsel and Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Road, South Windsor.

A funeral procession will gather Saturday, Dec. 1, at 9 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Margaret Mary Church, 80 Hayes Road, South Windsor. Burial will follow at Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Carmen's memory may be made to the Helen and Harry Gray Cancer Center, 85 Retreat Ave., Hartford, CT 06106.

I met Carmen at the Dept of Social Services I was a new employee she taught me "the ropes". I will always remember the jokes, laughter, and words of wisdom she gave me. My condolence to the Family.
