David K. Lyon III

David K. Lyon III, 91, of Manchester, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 5, 2021. He was born in New London, and was the son of the late David K. and Evelyn P. Lyon.

Dave graduated from Norwich Free Academy and attended the University of Central Missouri before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. During the Korean War, he served in Europe as a radio technician and developed a knack for sales and profiteering by selling unwanted cigars from the base exchange to local workmen. He sent all his military pay home to his parents.

After serving, Dave worked as an underwriter in Hartford, where he met his first wife and mother of his children, Mary Buchanan. With baby on the way, Dave seized the opportunity to work as a salesman for Kee Lox Inc., where he quickly became their top salesman. His sales stories were epic, and he loved sharing them. Dave went on to start his own business, Lyco Products, in 1975, which eventually merged with Lyon Auto Upholstery, operated by son, Bob Lyon, to form a family business, Lyco Inc., Remanufactured Office Furniture, that still operates today in Manchester.

In 1983, his wife, Mary, passed away after a long battle with breast cancer. Dave would eventually remarry to Lynn Digan and they spent many years in Newport, Rhode Island before retiring to Mesa, Arizona. After Lynn died in 2004, Dave moved back to Manchester. He spent his last years staying with his sons, Dave and Bob, enjoying grape soda, donuts, the Boston Red Sox, and Fox News.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David Lyon and Jane Presnick-Lyon of Cheshire; his son and partner, Bob Lyon and Kim Person of Andover; his son and daughter-in-law, Jack Lyon and Cynthia Reynolds of Natick, Massachusetts, daughter and son-in-law, Betsy and Stuart Bohm of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; his son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Carrie Lyon of Bolton; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his stepfamily - daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Paul Curtis of Nashua, New Hampshire; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Mary Digan of Scottsdale, Arizona; son, Tim Digan of Portland; daughter, Judy Bator of Hebron; and 11 grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his wives, Mary Buchanan Lyon and Marilyn "Lynn" Digan Lyon.

A graveside service will be held at East Cemetery in Manchester on Saturday, June 26, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children at
