Born in Ramsgate, England, the daughter of the late Arthur and Dorothy (Viney) Barnes, she grew up and lived in Slough, England before coming to the United States in 1953. She lived in Bloomfield and Simsbury before moving to Vernon 55 years ago. Dorothy was a graduate of Manchester Community College. She was a paralegal at various law firms, and she was previously employed at The Travelers Insurance Co. She enjoyed working in the garden and traveling with her husband. She liked reading, writing, cooking, exercising, and yoga. She was a longtime dedicated parishioner of St. John's Episcopal Church.

She is survived by her three sons, Stephen Marshall and his wife, Karin, of Houston, Timothy Marshall and his wife, Nina, of Newport Beach, California, and Douglas Marshall of Farmington; two grandchildren, Skylar Marshall of Vernon who was her caregiver, and Keith Marshall of Newport Beach; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Dorothy was predeceased by her daughter-in-law, Kim Marshall; her sister, Eileen Butler; and her brother Jonathan Barnes.

A memorial service to celebrate Dorothy's and Peter's lives will be held Saturday, Sept. 1, at 1 p.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, 523 Hartford Tpke. (Route 30), Vernon.
