Gregory Sorrentino Obituary

On Wednesday, July 22, 2020, the world sadly lost a shining light, a man with a heart of gold, Gregory P. Sorrentino of Enfield.

Greg was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, on Oct. 3, 1962, the beloved son of the late Domenic and Mary (Catania) Sorrentino. He was also predeceased by his brother, Domenic I. Sorrentino. In the early 1970s, Greg and his family moved to Connecticut to support his father's business, Dome Airport Trucking. Greg carried on the business upon his father's passing. Throughout Greg's life he made friends wherever he went, striking up conversations with strangers he came across, who soon became friends. He was a giver and helpful neighbor who received the Community Service Award from the Town of Enfield two years ago. Greg was an avid lover of Chihuahuas, especially his beloved Daisy, who went everywhere with him until she passed away last year. His new Chihuahua, Lilly was the newest addition to his family and brought him much joy. She remained by his side until the very end.

Greg leaves behind close friends and family who share in his memory, dear friends David Gladstone, Dina, Cohen and Justin; dear friends Paul, Cindy, Carlie, and Matthew Cichocki; dear friends Mike and Ev Sherriffs; cousin Marie Dostoomian and son Christopher and family; cousin Patrick Sorrentino and family; Brenda and the ladies at Stop & Shop floral department.

A special thank you to the wonderful and caring VITAS staff who provided compassionate knowledgeable care, Carol, Michelle, Denise, Dr. Kumar, Debra, and Laxi, and to Nora, his 24-hour care provider from Polish Helping Hands.

Due to COVID-19, services will be private.

Paul and I (Brenda) are deeply saddened to hear of Gregs passing. He was such a sweetheart. and such a fantastic neighbor!! I remember the fist time I saw him taking up our trash bins. He said he loved to be outside and loved to help. that was years ago. we struck up conversations and become very good friends. he teased each other about being "old" since I was a few weeks older than he was. he would take daisy on his walks in her pouch every day. rain or shine. we were saddened by her passing as well., Daisy became the popular neighborhood girl! My heart breaks for Lilly now. I hope she is with someone who loves her as much as greg did. we're still sad to think I will never see his smiling face walk by my house and wave, every single time he passed by. Rest In Peace our sweet friend!

We are completely saddened to hear the news of Greg’s passing. We couldn’t have asked for a better neighbor or friend. Greg was truly one of a kind and anyone who ever had the chance to know him was very lucky. He was always helping others, a true angel on earth and now in the after life. We will never forget him and he will be missed so dearly. The kids really miss waving to him as he would walk by each day. We can find small comfort in knowing he is with his beloved Daisy again. Until we meet again.

Several years ago, I first met Greg and his father when I worked in the cargo dept. for Northwest Airlines at Bradley International Airport. Greg and his father, Domenic, were customers when they operated Dome Airport Trucking. They were very professional, kind, courteous and wonderful to do business with.
My deepest condolences to Greg, his family and friends on this very sad occasion.

Gregory being described as a shining light is nothing short of the truth. It breaks my heart to learn of his passing and Gregory had made such an impact on myself and the girls at Webster Bank, always accompanied by Daisy and Lilly. It was always a pleasure to interact and hold a conversation with Gregory as he was such a gentle soul, and continued to keep me on his mind after transferring to a different area. My eyes tear as I am writing this and reading the beautifully written obituary. Gregory, I will miss you immensely as well as your friends at Webster Bank, and we wish you nothing but eternal peace, forever. Thank you so much for being such a positive light for everyone, and leaving such an impact. If and when I know where Gregory will be laid to rest, I would want nothing more than to pay him a visit from time to time. Rest in Peace my dear friend.

A friend like Greg will only be once in a lifetime. There will never be a day that he will not be missed. Not only by me but by many. I will always have the greatest memories that were created together for the past 33 years of knowing each other. From the amazing roast beef grinders at Rinaldis, to all the birthdays and family gatherings. I will miss our phone calls that lasted 30 plus minutes and we talk about nothing important at all. Greg was the person who always was there for others to lend a helping hand. He never really asked for much in return from anyone. I could continue to go on and tell you how great he was but, if you knew him then you already know that.
I will miss you more then you know buddy. You have changed my life forever just by being in it. Thank you for never stopping to believe in me and always being there. I MISS YOU AND I WILL LOVE YOU LIKE A BROTHER FOREVER
