Irene Placzek Obituary
Irene was born in New Britain on Sept. 25, 1929, where she worked at New Britain Gas Company and, in 1966, moved to Windsor Locks with Fred.
She was a former member of the Windsor Locks Women's Club, bowled in leagues at the Villa Rose and Bradley Bowl, a Cub Scout Den Mother, and a faithful parishioner/Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at St. Mary Church. She was very proud of her Polish heritage, enjoyed polka dancing, tennis, cooking (her golabki were great), sewing, creative dressing and home decorating style, and shopping for bargains. Most of all, enjoyed spending time with family, including two grandchildren whom she was extremely proud.
She was predeceased by her parents, Alexander and Mary (Kosinski) Niedzwiecki; her brothers, William, Alex, Stanley, and Rev Harold Niedzwiecki; and her sisters, Jean Zliczewski and Sophie McAdoo. She is survived by her son Gary and his wife, Leslie of South Windsor; her grandsons Benjamin and Zachary; many nieces, nephews, friends, and wonderful neighbors.
A donation of your choice or performing an act of kindness in the spirit of Irene would be the greatest tribute to her memory.
Irene's family would like to thank the numerous caregivers that helped her along her journey, especially in the past few months. Her youthful spirit will be remembered as reminding us to laugh often, dream big, and reach for the stars. Those close to her will remember her for her safety pins, notes, big purse with 'everything' in it, love, and humor. She was very much loved and will be missed.
Irene's family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday, April 2, from 5 to 7 p.m., at the Windsor Locks Funeral Home, 441 Spring St. A funeral procession will gather at 9 a.m., at the funeral home on Monday, April 3, for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10 a.m., at St. Mary Church, 2 Spring St. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
