Lorraine Cummings Obituary

Lorraine "Lefty" (Blanchard) Cummings, 87, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, at home with her family by her side. Her passing followed a long struggle with COPD. Lefty attended local schools and was a graduate of MHS, Class of 1943.

She leaves her husband of 66 years, Ted Cummings; and a daughter and son-in-law, Terry and Lee Bogli of Manchester; a son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Rachel Cummings of Israel; and a son and daughter-in-law, Ted T. and Blair P. Cummings of Ashford. Lorraine also leaves seven grandchildren, Jered Bogli, Justin Bogli, and his wife, EveAnn, David and Gideon Cummings, Lauren and Sam Cummings, Marc Gotler, and his wife, Brett; and one great-granddaughter, Madison E. Gotler. Lorraine is also survived by her sister, Lucille B. Vincek of Manchester. Lorraine is predeceased by two sisters, Josephine Meeker and Alice Balch; five brothers, Francis, Gerard, George, James, and Kenneth Blanchard; and her parents, Nicholas and Esther Blanchard.

During her lifetime, Lorraine had varied interests; swimming, bowling, and her favorite, golf. She was an avid reader, and an accomplished sculptress with a passion for gardening. Above all, throughout her life, a constant was her love for family and friends and the New York Yankees.

There are no calling hours and interment will be private.

There will be a "gathering for family and friends" that will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2011, to celebrate her life. The gathering will be at the Manchester Country Club South Main St., Manchester from 2 to 5 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Lorraine's name may be made to the Manchester Scholarship Foundation, 20 Hartford Road, Manchester, CT 06040, or the VNA Hospice Program, 8 Keynote Dr., Vernon CT 06066.

The family thanks all who gave her tender care through the years, especially over these last several weeks.

We are so sorry to hear of Lorraine's passing. I remember first meeting her with Janet Bycholski many, many years ago. The Cummings family has always been so great to us in every way.
