Mabel Conrady Obituary

Mabel E. Conrady, 97, of Rockville, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at Fox Hill Nursing Center.

She was born June 20, 1915, in Rockville, the daughter of the late William and Jennie (Rieden) Conrady. She was a lifelong resident of Rockville. She was a graduate of Rockville High School Class of 1933. She was the secretary and bookkeeper at Conrady Bros. Garage, which was owned by her father and uncle. She later worked for 30 years in the Vernon School System as a secretary to Rockville High School principals, retiring in June 1981. She was a volunteer at Rockville General Hospital in the sewing group, the dialysis unit, and she was a charter member of the RGH Auxiliary when it began in 1943. She delivered Meals on Wheels for the Community Renewal Team for 26 years. She also volunteered as an aide in the library of Northeast School for many years. She was a lifelong parishioner at St. Bernard Church, Rockville, and served as a Eucharistic minister. She was inducted into the 2007 Wall of Honor at Rockville High School for her personal and professional contributions in the community. In 2008, she was the recipient of the Liberty Bell Award presented by Tolland County Bar Association at its 2008 Law Day Ceremony, given annually to a non-lawyer citizen of Tolland County who had rendered outstanding community service. Mabel spent her whole life doing great acts of kindness with special love for her family and many friends.

She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Jean C. and Gilbert C. Weber of Ellington; a niece, Celinda A. Weber of Vernon; a nephew, Donald A. Weber of Boston.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at 10 a.m. in St. Bernard Church, Rockville. Burial will follow in Grove Hill Cemetery. Relatives and friends may join the family on Thursday, Sept, 27, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Burke-Fortin Funeral Home, 76 Prospect St., Rockville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Bernard Church, 25 St. Bernard's Terrace, Rockville, CT 06066.
