Chaplain Morrison Obituary
MORRISON, CHAPLAIN W., "CHAP,"73, passed away Friday, January 6, 2006, in Louisville. He was born August 13, 1932, in Baltimore, MD. He graduated from John Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD, in 1954, with a Bachelor of Engineering degree, and awarded a bachelor of arts degree in foreign service in 1956, from Georgetown University in Washington, DC. He received his master of arts degree in history from Emory University in Atlanta, GA, and awarded a PhD in history from University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He taught at Washington & Lee University in Lexington, VA. While teaching, he published a book in 1967, on Wilmot Proviso entitled Democratic Politics & Sectionalism: The Wilmot Proviso Controversy. He also taught at Youngstown University in Youngstown, OH, where he was very active in the protest of Vietnam War movement and hosted a weekly radio talk show. He later moved to Waterloo, Ontario, Canada in protest of the Vietnam War and taught at Waterloo University. He returned to the U.S. in 1972. In 1972 he worked for George McGovern's campaign for president, he also worked as a Lobbyist in Congress on Nuclear Freeze in 1984. He worked in Miami for the American Friends Service Committee and was an active member on the Justice Committee of the Miami Friends Meeting. In 1995, he moved to Louisville. He taught part time at Jefferson Community College. He was a member of the Fellowship of Reconciliation and on the Steering Committee. He was a member of Louisville Friends Meeting, Kentucky Interfaith Task Force for Latin America and the Caribbean (KITLAC) and other peace and justice groups in Louisville. He is survived by his daughters, Lynette Morrison of Vancouver, B.C., Canada and Laura Morrison of White Rock, B.C., Canada; his grandchildren, Dylan Morrison Myers of Louisville, and Alafia Morrison of White Rock, B.C., Canada; and a sister, Barbara Gognat of Louisville. A memorial service will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2006, at Church of the Ascension, 4600 Lynnbrook Dr., with visitation starting at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
