James Higgins Obituary

Higgins, James R. Irish and born on Saint Patrick's Day, March 17, 1936; entered into eternal life on August 19, 2016. Beloved husband of Janice Mary (nee O'Connell) for 39 years, preceded in death by wife Carol Ann (nee Kroner). Survived by brother John, preceded in death by brothers Pat, Dan, Ken, and sister Judy Schott. Loving father of Maureen, Mike, Colleen (Rob Palmatier), Tim, Patrick (Heather), Kevin (Ellen), Daniel (Holly), Katie (Doug) Rasmussen, Brian (Erin), and Jimmy (Niki). Grandpa Jim will be missed dearly by his grandchildren, Colin, Sean, Liam, Andy, Caleb, Keelin, Josiah, Julia, Melanie, Sibella, Margaret, Emma, Joseph, Grady, Marketa, and Ella. Survived by 30 nieces and nephews, and many wonderful in-laws. Retired in 1989 after 32 years of service as a Milwaukee Police officer. Devout Catholic and long-time member of Christ King Church in Wauwatosa, WI. Member of the Knights of Columbus. Jim shared his respect and love for life with many others as a 90-time blood donor. Jim enjoyed celebrating his birthday on Saint Patrick's Day, his Irish heritage and volunteering many years at Milwaukee's Irish Fest. He loved throwing a baseball or football in the yard with his children and grandchildren, attending plays at the Sunset Playhouse, spending numerous hours attending his children's sporting events. Jim loved the time spent visiting relatives on a family ranch in Nebraska, where he spent summers in his youth putting up haystacks, mending fences, and branding cattle. Jim liked working crossword puzzles, and answering trivia questions. Most of all Jim valued spending time with his family. Thanks for everything dad. Visitation on Friday, August 26 from 9AM until 11:30AM with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at CHRIST KING CHURCH, 2646 N. Swan Blvd., Wauwatosa, WI. Private entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations please to the Maryknoll Sisters, Donor Services Department, P.O. Box 317, Maryknoll, NY 10545-0317. Jim's wishes were for everyone to wear their favorite Irish attire. "Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand."

I always looked forward to talking with Jim. He liked to talk about his children and grand children.

I will always remember celebrating St Patricks day with him..... whether or not it was on St. Pattys day.

He was a kind and generous man. I will miss him.

I have known Jim all my life and am so saddened to hear of his passing. Although I hadn't seen him in many years, I was lucky enough to get a big bear hug from him at my mother's 80th birthday party this past March and he seemed to be the same good-humored robust person I remembered as a kid growing up. So sad to hear this news and much love to his wife Jan and all his children. Rest in peace you big Irishman, you were one of a kind.
