Dear Family & Friends:
I was a Sophomore at Independence Sr High the first year that Jodie came to teach music at our high school. She was such a livewire! She was always so energetic, urging us on to learn more about music as well as ourselves. I am now 42, and I can still see her standing at the piano and tapping out the beat of the music with her foot, singing along with us, or stopping to correct us and make us try again.
Knowing Jodie and having her guidance and friendship, as well as teacher/mentor, made an impact on me that has contributed to the woman that I am today. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity we had to share our lives, even if it was for only a few brief years.
Jodie, rest in peace, and know that you were loved and admired.
Sincerely,
Grace "Dolly" (Burton) Stephens

Jodie's family and friends.
Like Martha Wade I also had the good fortune to teach with Jodie at Pratt High School. I became very good friends with Jodie and shared many enjoyable and memorable experiences with her. Our hiking expeditions to such great places as the Gyp Hills and Flower Pot Mound, and our trips to Hutchinson to the Menonite quilt auction are experiences I have never forgotten and never will forget. Most importantly,Jodie was a great confidence and self-esteem builder for me during a time in my life when there was a critical need. For that I will be forever grateful.
I do wish to offer my sympathy to all of Jodie's family and friends. I am a better person to have know Jodie and, like many, will greatly miss her.

Dear Jodie's family members,
My name is Martha Mattheyer Wade. I was so sad to read of Jodie's death. We taught together at Pratt High for 3 years. There were 4 of us single girls who had great times at school and out of school. We did silly things in the name of school spririt, went to activities together, and socialized at least once a week without talking about school. Jodie was always baking and bringing treats to shcool for those who weren't so good in the kitchen. Jodie played at our wedding in May of 1977, which was also when she moved from Pratt, as did another of the group. Two of us are still in Pratt, teaching at PHS. Jodie always spoke fondly of her family, and Jan did visit in Pratt several times, as did her youngest brother. We enjoyed meeting them. I'll always think of her as vivacious and dedicated to her students. She had the best bow of any director I've known. I'm sure she'll be missed by all in your families. Again, I'm sorry for your loss. Sincerely, Martha Wade
