Eleanor Rutlader Obituary

Eleanor Rutlader, 79, Kansas City, MO, passed away Sunday, August 8, 2004. Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 10 at Sheffield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Multiple Sclerosis Society in lieu of flowers. Mrs. Rutlader was born in Kansas City, KS, on October 29, 1924, and was a graduate of Argentine High School. She retired January 3, 1995, from the US Department of Agriculture, where she was a secretary for 21 years. Her previous Government service was at the Social Security Administration and the US Department of Labor from 19441954. Her break in service was spent raising her two daughters. She was active in their schools by being room mother every year, a Brownie leader, and a Girl Scout leader. She taught Sunday School at Kehilath Israel Synagogue from 1946-1953. Mrs. Rutlader won first place for her after dinner speech in her public speaking class at the Advertising and Sales Executive Club, and won the first place trophy when all of the first place winners in their classes competed. She was an assistant to the professional fund raisers when Beth Shalom Synagogue moved from its location at 34th & Paseo to its present location at 94th & Wornall. Mrs. Rutlader was president of the SAADIA Chapter of B'nai B'rith girls and previously held offices in B'nai B'rith Women and Hadassah. She was a member of the Beta Alpha Gamma sorority and was the Star Point Esther in the Heroine Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. She spent many years trying to find justice in the judicial system. She is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Joan and Scotty Katilus, Idaho Springs, CO, and Barbara Leynor, Plano, TX; sisters Zelda Tasman and Harriet Waldman, both of Louisville, KY; brothers Joseph G. Shalinsky and Leo Shalinsky, both of Prairie Village, KS; grandchildren Perry Micah Leynor and Keri Risa Leynor, both of Plano, TX. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Lester, Marvin, and Milton Shalinsky. (Arr. The Louis Memorial Chapel, 816-361-5211)
