Geraldine Monaghan Obituary

Geraldine Philomena Monaghan
May 9, 1957 - March 26, 2023
Overland Park, Kansas - Geraldine Philomena Monaghan
May 9th 1957 - March 26th 2023
Geraldine Monaghan, a beloved member of the community, passed away March 26th at the age of 65. She was born and raised in Dublin, Ireland. She immigrated to the USA July 1987, where she became a US citizen in 1997. She became an IT Consultant for various companies Marion Labs, USDA, and Teva. She was an active member of the Irish community, volunteering for Celtic Fringe Organization, Kansas City Irish Center, and Kansas City Irish Fest. In her retirement she enjoyed golfing, traveling and of late wrote a wonderful book about her childhood "The Fire: The Story of an Irish Family."
Geraldine was a kind and caring person who always put others before herself. Her warm smile and infectious laughter will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Geraldine is predeceased by her parents Dorothy and Gerald McCarthy and survived by her loving son Keith, who was the joy of her life; her brothers Noel of Dublin, Ireland, John of Sydney, Australia, Ray of Sydney, Australia and Justin of Dublin, Ireland along with her many nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, but her legacy of kindness and compassion will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
A memorial service and Irish wake will be held on Sunday, April 2nd from 4 to 7pm at Kansas City Irish Center, Drexel Hall, 3301 Baltimore Ave, Kansas City, Missouri 64111. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Geraldine's memory to Harvesters Kansas City and ACLU

I met Ger almost 30 years ago and although we would move in and out of each other's lives, it was like no time had passed when we did get together. It was so easy to fall into a conversation with Ger and she was always so happy to see you and catch up. When my Mickey passed in 2020 Ger was one of the first to reach out and she knew just what to say in the moment, even when there wasn't a lot one could say. Shortly after I was so lucky to spend more time with her talking about everything and nothing.
I have been blessed to know you, Ger. Until we all meet again, have a pint with Mickey for me! Love and miss you, my friend.

Ger and I really connected in 2013 after a life-changing event for me. Over the years we talked together for hours about the deeper meaning of life and she was such a support to me. She was much more than my aunt through marriage, she was a true friend. I will miss hearing her voice, her laugh and her sage advice. I know she is gone straight to heaven. Till we meet again Ger, goodbye and thank you for your love. To all Ger's loved ones, my sincere condolences, she loved you all very much.

Was so very sad when I heard of her passing. We had many good political discussions over the years. She was a breath of fresh air in this sometimes difficult world that we live in. She will be missed for sure

I worked with Geraldine for a few years and she was so delightful. She was feisty, full of wonder, caring and kind. I brought a 12 layer chocolate cake (from The Cheesecake Factory) into work one day and she went crazy over it! She was known as the chocolate snob because she kept only the BEST chocolate stashed away in her drawer for special occasions. We had a lot of laughs and good times, and I will dearly miss her.
