James Gardner Obituary

Mr. James Marion "Jim" Gardner, 66, of Lawson, MO, passed away Monday, March 3, 2003, in Lake Port, FL. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 7, at the Lawson United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Don Smith officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Elmira Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until service time Friday at the church, however friends may call at the Jarman Chapel in Lawson from 2-8 p.m. Thursday. Memorials suggested to the American Heart Association. Jim was born February 12, 1937 in Butler, MO, to James Edward and Lora Fern (Snodgrass) Gardner. He attended and graduated from Butler High School. Following high school, he attended Fort Scott Junior College in Fort Scott, KS and later Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, MO. He had served his country in the U.S. Naval Reserves. On June 20, 1958 Jim took Barbara Huffey to be his wife and lifelong companion in Miami, OK. He was a farmer and also had worked as a millwright at the R.M. Taylor Company and Enerco in Kansas City, MO. He had lived in Butler and Kansas City before moving to Lawson 35-years ago. He was a member of the Lawson United Methodist Church and was a member of Millwright Local #1529 in Kansas City. Jim and Barbara have spent the past seven winters in Florida. He had a great love for the outdoors and loved to fish and hunt. He especially loved to be with his family. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Jeffrey James Gardner in October of 1991. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Barbara Gardner of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Lisa Gardner of Lawson, MO; a brother, Ronald Gardner of Butler, MO; grandchildren, Robert Gardner of St. Joseph, MO, Michael Gardner of Richmond, MO, Daniel Wainscott, Bethany Wainscott, Brittany Wainscott, Gavin Roberts and Alyssa Gardner, all of Lawson, MO.
