MARGUERITE O'LEARY SHULTS

1928 - 2017

Marguerite Elaine O'Leary Shults, Raytown, MO, passed away January 29, 2017. Visitation will be 6-8pm, Wednesday, February 1st at McGilley Sheil Chapel, with a prayer service starting at 6pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10am, Thursday, February 2nd at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 8812 E. Gregory Blvd, Raytown, MO 64133. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Our Lady of Lourdes, Holy Family House, or the Wounded Warrior Project. Marguerite was born in Greenleaf, KS to Francis J. and Mabel (Noblitt) O'Leary on June 16, 1928. She graduated from Bishop Hogan High School in 1945. She married Glenn W. Shults on July 31, 1948 in Long Beach, CA, where she had lived for several years. They enjoyed square dancing in their earlier years. Marguerite and Glenn eventually moved to Raytown where they lived most of their lives. They volunteered at the Holy Family House in Kansas City for a number of years together. Marguerite retired from the IRS. She would assist the elderly with preparing their taxes with AARP after her retirement. She also helped out as an election day poll worker. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Wheels that Cared (through the Shepherd Center), and Harvesters. Marguerite was an active member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She was a Eucharistic Minister, involved with the Friendly Club, The Altar Society and received the Bishop's Award. She is preceded in death by her husband Glenn; brother Daniel P. O'Leary; sisters Mary Coffman, Delores Garside and Teresa O'Leary. Survivors include her children, Steven Shults; Gary and Peggy Shults; Kathy and Charley Cushing; Mike and Robbie Shults; Eric and Trina Shults; and Dennis Shults. She also leaves a brother Frank J. O'Leary and sister Rita Koerber; 13 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and a great, great granddaughter that was born in February 2014. The family has had family reunions every year since 1984.
