Melvin George Grazda

Max Grazda was born on September 11, 1919, in Kansas City, KS. He died January 4, 2004, in Encinitas, CA, at the age of 84. He was a member of Carlsbad for 32 years. Max was a graduate of St. Benedict's College. He served in the US Navy for 25 years, earning the rank of Commander. He studied at the War College and Annapolis. He fought in both Theatres in WWII. He then spent 16 years as a Biology and Oceanography teacher at Oceanside High School. He was honored as teacher of the year in 1982. He also taught Government at Mira Costa College. Max enjoyed his family, friends, church, and many volunteer activities. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carol Grazda; his son Tom Grazda and family from Placitas, NM; his daughter Cindy Neuschwander and family from Pleasanton, CA; and his sister Bernice Pluta. He has five grandchildren. A Memorial Mass was held at St. Patrick's Church in Carlsbad on Friday, January 9, 2004. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Max Grazda Scholarship Fund can be sent to Oceanside High School, Seagaze and Home Streets, Oceanside, CA, 92054, to the attention of Nancy Miller.
