Richard D. "Dick" Isbell, age 82, of Batavia, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Delnor Hospital in Geneva surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on August 11, 1940, in Geneva, the son of Harold and Edna Mae (Taylor) Isbell. Richard was brother to Donald Isbell and Carole (Isbell) Parillo.
Dick was a lifelong resident of Batavia, Illinois. He met his wife Imy in High School and they began dating after graduation. They fell in love and married a year later on February 27th 1960. Dick started out a as a postal worker in Batavia, then he purchased Jacobsens Flowers in Geneva where he and his wife ran a successful floral business for several years. He finished his career out working for Tri-City Excavating in Batavia as a heavy machine operator.
Dick was a very loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He would sacrifice anything to make sure his family was well loved, protected and provided for. His favorite thing in the world was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Every Sunday after church the family would gather around the table for a big family meal. Much love and laughter were shared together. Dick taught his children that family was a precious gift from God and should be treasured always.
Dick had a very strong faith in the Lord and would spend hours engrossed in his bible. He often talked of what heaven would be like. He had a brilliant and inquisitive mind. He was quite the conversationalist, He could talk to anyone and loved to share stories with them. Dick had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh. Often sharing a joke or two.
Dick enjoyed watching sports, traveling and spending time in nature watching birds. His favorite bird was the male Cardinal, he loved its vibrant red coloring.
Dick was very social and had many close friends. Every Friday they would gather for dinner at Harner's Bakery in Aurora and afterwards go play dominoes together. This was a tradition for many years.
Dick also enjoyed going to Siesta Key Beach in Florida. He spent many winters there with his friends.
Dick was very well loved. He will be dearly missed by all his family and friends.

I am so sorry for your loss. Dick was one of my favorite clients. I would return his calls from my car so we could spend time talking and not feel rushed. He was intelligent, kind, and I will miss him, his calls, and visits to my office. He was truly a dear man.
