Died: Dec. 24, 2014; in Geneva, IL
Thomas G. DeHaven, age 90, of Batavia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 24, 2014, at Delnor Hospital in Geneva.
He was born February 3, 1924, in Burnside, IL, the son of Ed and Estella (nee Sears) DeHaven. He was united in marriage to Kathryn Shell on June 24, 1956, in Rushville, IL.
During World War II, Thomas took pride in helping the war effort by working for the Rock Island Arsenal and the Iowa Ordinance Company. After the war ended, he worked for the Sant Fe Railroad Company, before leaving to teach history in both Warsaw and Geneseo, Illinois. He finished his career as a teacher and guidance counselor for Proviso West High School in Hillside, Illinois.
He is survived by his son, Gary (Cathy) DeHaven of Carpentersville, IL; a grandson, Calvin; his sister, Donna Wright of Carthage, IL; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
In addition to his parents, Thomas is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathryn; and his siblings, Vern, Gervis, Gerald, Wilma, Adrian, and Joyce.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 3, 2015, at Baker Memorial United Methodist Church in St. Charles. Rev. Mary Zajac will officiate. Interment will be in West Batavia Cemetery.
