Pompano Beach, Florida - Edward C. (Ted) Kennedy, 88, husband of Carolyn M. Kennedy, died Friday, April 8, 2022 in Pompano Beach, Florida.
Born in Wilmington, Delaware in 1933, Ted was the son of the late Joseph C. Kennedy and Frances M. Kennedy. He grew up in areas of New York and Chicago, graduating from Evanston High School and then entering Northwestern University and the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. After service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, Ted briefly attended Transylvania University in Lexington and then obtained a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of California at Berkeley in 1963. He practiced architecture in California with several large firms before moving to Lexington, Kentucky in 1969, eventually building his own architectural firm, Kennedy Associates.
In his private practice Ted designed many projects for private clients, the Commonwealth of Kentucky and Wilkinson Enterprises, where he was Vice President of Design and Construction for many years. During his career, he was also Chairman of the Board of Downtown Lexington Association, Board Member of the Kentucky Society of Architects, President of the East Kentucky Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and Chairman of several committees of the Lexington/Fayette County Chamber of Commerce.
In 1994, Ted was granted a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from the University of Kentucky and, upon his retirement from Wilkinson Enterprises in 1996, embarked on a second career as a sculptor. He is represented in private art collections in Kentucky, New York, Massachusetts, California, Illinois, South Carolina and the Netherlands.
In addition to his wife, Lyn, Ted is survived by four sons, Carter T. Kennedy of Charleston, S.C., Wade M. Kennedy (and wife Eileen) of Glen Ellyn, IL, Ian D. Kennedy of Portland, OR, and Duncan M. Kennedy of Lake Placid, NY; stepchildren James E. Geisler and Christopher D. Geisler of Lexington, KY and Gail M. Zielinski of Westmont, IL; eight grandchildren; a brother Stephen D. Kennedy of Watertown, MA and sister Dr. Katherine Treadway of Harvard, MA and their families.
Ted was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him, as a husband, father, artist, social and political commentator and friend. The family has arranged a private memorial, so no visitation or other services are planned.
