I always loved it when Grandma and Grandpa would come to visit us in Texas. Our conversations were pretty entertaining. :)
My mom says one of the strongest memories she had of Grandma and me is her taking a bath and me randomly stripping down and climbing into the tub with her and also her playing with me outside in the kiddie pool. I don't remember that stuff, but I do remember all the times she called on the phone to ask how everyone was doing, and sent cards, and gave us Christmas ornaments every Decemeber. It was nice having her at Chris & Angie's wedding as well.
She was a good person.

In May of 1929, my sister, Hazel, moved, along with the rest of the Smith family, to the dam and power plant on the South Fork of the Clearwater River. Half of the trip was made in an old truck owned and driven by Carl Henderson. The remainder of the trip was by wagon and horses driven by Jimmy Stewart. It was only a few months prior to her sixth birthday. There were no other kids close by, so we grew up very close and dependent on each other. During the ten years we lived along the Clearwater River, she spent her summers picking wild flowers and strawberries; swam in the river, went on picnics, climbed mountains, camped and now and then tried to get her brother to play house. I often agreed, but only under the condition that she address me as "Abraham Lincoln George Washington Jones". For the next six or seven years she climbed the mountain or rode behind her brother on an old white horse to attend school at Rocky Point. It was four miles up hill and four miles back down the hill after school. In the winter there was cold ice and snow. It was dark in the morning when she left and dark when she finally arrived home at night. My sister, Hazel was a tough little girl!
As an adult, Hazel moved far away, but she always kept in touch by telephone and letters. Every year or two she came for a visit.
I have many fond memories of Hazel. I often think of her and the good times along the South Fork. She is my SISTER and I love her!

I love you and will miss you trememdously, Aunt Hazel. My fondest memory of you from the time I was a child until now is your beauty. You are a beautiful woman inside and out, and the people blessed enough to have known you or to be related to you will be overjoyed to see you again one day. Until then, my love to you Aunt Hazel. P.S. I can't close without mentioning how Dad tells the story of leading Snowball (the horse) through the snow to school with you in the saddle!! Wasn't he your hero!? Jean

I love you Mother and I know you are now with your Mother at peace. I had 10 days with you and wouldn't take a million for any of them. My heart will be with Dad and the family Tuesday and Wednesday since Richard and I will not be with you.
You were the best and I will miss your smile most of all. Your loving daughter, Donna

Dear Family of Hazel,
We were all blessed to know Hazel. Truly a beautiful lady and thoughtful sweet heart. I always felt she cared for me, like I was a dear friend or one of her children. It was a very good feeling.
I am Diane Wells sister. Over the years, Hazel and I were able to visit several times and I always felt very comfortable with her like a close relation. I will miss her.

I thank God I knew her.
Aloha dear Hazel, may you, rest in peace.
Aloha,
Rose
