James Heard Obituary
November 28, 1931 - December 9, 2023
Lexington, Kentucky - Rev. James Edward Heard, 92, husband of Margurite Evelyn Heard, went to be with the Lord on Dec. 9, 2023. He was the father of Gale Heard, Debbie Stakelin (Jeff), and J. Stephen Heard; grandfather of Jared (Jackie), Drew (Rachel) and Taylor (Hailee) Stakelin, and Jackson and Max Heard; and great-grandfather of Madison, Jacob, Davis, Emma and Hinsley Stakelin. He was called into the ministry at age 25 while stationed in Fairbanks, AK with the U.S. Army and ordained in 1958. He was a graduate of Ouachita Baptist University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served as Pastor in churches in Arkansas, Kentucky and Indiana as well as on state and national Southern Baptist Convention committees. He also preached in Russia and Ukraine leading many to know the Lord. Visitation will be on Thurs., Dec. 14, 2023, 9:30 am to 12:30 pm with service at 12:30 pm at Broadway Baptist Church. Burial will be at Camp Nelson National Cemetery on Thursday at 2:30 pm. The family would like to express their appreciation to all those who have tirelessly assisted them during this time. He was man come from God that was sent into my life just at the right time. I surrendered to the ministry under his preaching. He took me under his wings and taught me by example what the Christ-life looks like. That was over 50 years ago and I still speak of him and his godly example still today. I loved this man and I know that I will see him again. Blessings and comfort to all the family.
