John V. Blaiklock

1931 - 2016

BLAIKLOCK John Victor, 85, husband of Una (Roberts) Blaiklock, died peacefully on Sun, Oct 9, 2016, at his residence. He and Una were married for over 61 years. Born Feb 1, 1931 in Uxbridge, West London, England, he was the son of the late Victor Sidney and Ellen Blaiklock. He was an avid rower and rugby player as a young man. In 1949, he was selected to the All-England Boys Rugby Team. Mr. Blaiklock was a graduate of the St. Charles I School, Kidderminster, and an engineering graduate of Birmingham University (England). He spent his career as a coal mining engineer. He worked for the National Coal Board, rising to general manager of several collieries in England. He was President of the North Staffordshire Institute of Mining Engineers between 1973- 1975. He moved to the United States in 1978 to pursue his mining career in America, and retired in 1993. He was an active member of both Rotary and Round Table in England, and Second Presbyterian Church in Lexington, Kentucky. He enjoyed traveling, playing tennis, friends, and reading. Most of all, he enjoyed his family. Survivors other than his wife include two daughters, Joanne Macready, Great Haywood, England, and Katy (Bucky) Buchignani, Lexington, KY; two sons, Steven (Karen) Blaiklock, Elizabethtown, KY, and Richard (Mindy) Blaiklock, Indianapolis, IN; seven grandchildren, Ian (Emily) Blaiklock, Alison Blaiklock, Joe Buchignani, Molly Buchignani, Ben Buchignani, Jack Blaiklock and Emily Blaiklock; one sister, Pauline Bland, Acton Trussell, England; and two nieces and two nephews. Funeral services will be held 10:30am Fri, Oct 14, at Second Presbyterian Church, 460 East Main Street, Lexington, KY, by Rev. Dan Hans. Interment, for family, to follow at Lexington Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8pm Thurs, Oct. 13th at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, 3421 Harrodsburg Road, Lexington, KY.
