Karl Rapp Obituary

RAPP, KARL EDWIN, III - of Knoxville, TN, passed away on Wednesday, March 14th, 2012. Karl was born May 14, 1941 in Lexington, Kentucky to Martha Wood Lee Rapp and Karl Edwin Rapp, II. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step mother, Helen Stone Rapp, and his brother, Lane Jameson Rapp. Karl is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Jean Schiffman Rapp, and their family: James W. Rapp, wife (Margaret) and their children James and Taylor (Tyler, TX); Karl E. Rapp IV; Jennifer Norris, husband (William) and their children Afan and Walt (Fairhope, AL); and Callie Pfeifer, husband (Andrew) and their children Lucy and Macy (Nashville, TN). Family was Mr. Rapp's pride and joy. Karl attended Columbia Military Academy and graduated from Oak Ridge High School. He graduated from the University of Miami in 1964 with a degree in Public Administration and earned his MBA in Finance from Rutgers University in 1975. Karl served in the U.S. Marine Corps as Captain and F-4 Pilot from 1958-1967. Serving the United States of America throughout his life was one of Karl's proudest accomplishments. Karl had been the Acting Treasurer for Lockheed Martin Energy Systems, Inc. since 1992. Prior to, he was the Manager of Banking and Cash Management for Lockheed from 1985 to 1992. He served as the Cash Manager for Union Carbide's Nuclear Division from 1980-1985 and Branch Manager of United American Bank of Knoxville from 1967-1980. In addition to a distinguished professional career, Karl's civic accomplishments and contributions are vast: Sun Trust Bank National Board of Directors; Treasurer and Vice President of the Treasury Management Association (TMA); Co-Founder, twice president and director of the Financial Management Assoc. of Greater Knoxville (FMA); Affiliate Chairman of the National Automated Clearing House (NACHA); City of Knoxville Investment Advisory Board member; Appalachian Chapter, American Red Cross; Rotary Club of Oak Ridge; Oak Ridge Jaycees Director; Two terms on the Oak Ridge Planning Commission; Knoxville YMCA Board of Directors and Chairman of Camp Montvale Board; The Church of the Ascension Chancel Master; Oak Ridge Cemetery Association Board; Fort Loudon Lake Association Board and Mariner's Pointe Homeowners' Association. Karl has been recognized for authoring over 20 published articles for the Treasury Management Association of the South and served as a panelist and guest speaker at TMA and NACHA conferences over the years. He was recognized for his civic contributions consistently throughout his life and received several awards including the Martin Marietta Corporate Honors Award, the Union Carbide Community Service Award and the Jaycees' Distinguished Service Award. A memorial service will be held in Knoxville at the Church of the Ascension on Monday March 19th, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. The family will receive friends immediately following the ceremony. Karl's family would like to thank the many doctors, nurses and hospital staffs who worked tirelessly and provided excellent care. We will be forever grateful.
