Knoxville, TN
Robert Kenneth Vann, of Knoxville, TN, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2019. Ken was born in Watertown, Tennessee on May 19, 1925 to George W. and Frances C. Vann. After the family moved to Knoxville, he was among the seventeen first graduates of the then new Bearden High School. He was a veteran, having served on the battleship U.S.S Indiana, during World War II in the Pacific. Ken was a graduate of the University of Tennessee and turned an engineering career into that of a professional "garbage collector". He was always proud to have been a pioneer in that field. Ken was married to the late Jeane Purvis Vann for over 31 years. He leaves a son, Robert B. Vann and wife, Mary as well as step-children Kathy Sharp of Woodbury, TN, Beth Grace of Beaufort, SC, John Purvis, Jr., Allyn Schwartz, and David Purvis of Knoxville. Ken and Jeane were among the founding members of the Hardin Valley Church of Christ. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 20, at 3:00 p.m, at The Hardin Valley Church of Christ, 11515 Hardin Valley Road, Knoxville, TN 37932. In lieu of flowers, donations made be made to the Hardin Valley Church of Christ Building Fund or the Benevolence Fund. Arrangements by Cremation Options, Inc. I just heard from Janice Vann that Kenneth had died and I am sorry to hear it. I am a first cousin of Kenneth's, and we had talked in December. I think I last saw Kenneth when he came to my mother's (Grace Vann Gill) funeral in Watertown in 2003. Sympathy to you, Robin, and to your family. The few Vann cousins (and we were only 3) are disappearing.
