Larry Hicks Obituary

Larry Hicks, 62, of Bardstown, passed away Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018, at his residence. He was CEO and President of Salt River Electric, and was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. He received a Graduate degree in Accounting from the University of Louisville, and graduated with a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Louisville.
Larry Hicks was the President and CEO of Salt River Electric, 2003 Bardstown Chambers of Commerce Man of the Year, Founder of Nelson County Community Clinic and NELCO Bardstown, Professor at Elizabeth Community College and St. Catherine Community College, and a member of several boards including Flaget Foundation, Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, Bardstown Industrial Development, Town and Country Bank, St. Catherine College, Nelson County Economic Development Association, East Kentucky Power Cooperative, Rural Cooperative Credit, Kentucky Association of Electric Cooperative, Bethlehem High School, and Springfield Washington County Economic Development Authority. While serving on these boards, Larry was instrumental in the development and building of Flaget Hospital in Nelson County and other industrial parks in Washington County. Larry also served on the committee responsible for the purchase and development of a hydro facility serving the residents of Eastern Kentucky.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Betty Sue Hicks; and two sisters, Sue Ann Harmon and Dottie Mahaffey.
He is survived by his wife, Ellen Hicks, of Bardstown; two sons, Jim (Hannah) Hicks and David (Jessie) Hicks, both of Bardstown; a daughter, Mary Beth Hicks, of New York; two granddaughters, Gracie Hicks and Carson Hicks, both of Bardstown; six brothers and sisters, Janet Hicks, of Bardstown, Len Hicks, of Louisville, Mary Helen Bidwell, of Louisville, Dan (Julie) Hicks, of Bardstown, Michael (Tammy) Hicks, of Bardstown, Jane Hicks, of Louisville; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the Basilica of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date. Bishop Bill Medley will officiate.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, and 9-10:15 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Barlow Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may go to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Research House.
Barlow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ellen and family, I'm at a loss for words. "Sorry for your loss" just doesn't convey the utter shock I'm in to read of Larry's passing. As you know, he clerked for us at Western Auto, and braved the severe cold and icy weather to attend Mom's funeral in 2010. He looked like a million dollars then. I would be there with you right now if I could.
