Christopher Houle Obituary

CHRISTOPHER RYAN HOULE Age 24, who was best known for his upbeat spirit and positivity, died September 19, 2006, of complications due to Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at West Hills Hospital and Medical Center. He was born October 12, 1981 in Tarzana, California to parents Rodney and Krysti Houle. He graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 2000 and attended Los Angeles Valley College where he got his commercial recording technician certificate. Although Christopher spent most his life in a wheel chair because of Muscular Dystrophy, (MD) his passion for life was immeasurable. He participated in many events to help raise awareness and proceeds for MD, never letting the disease slow him down. His greatest joy was participating in the annual Love Ride for which he was the ambassador for the past 14 years. Christopher was awarded the Muscular Dystrophy Association's 2006 Courage Award in July for being an inspiring role model and a champion of their fight toward finding a cure. This was the second time he received this award. He demonstrated commitment to his community by being active in the Valley Youth Conference Football League. Christopher coached youth football tea ms for the Northridge Knights for over 10 years. He will be greatly missed by many. Christopher is survived by his father, Rod; mother, Krysti; younger brother, Brandon; and younger sister, Kodi. He is further survived by his grandmother, Jeanne Davis; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and loving friends. A Viewing for Christopher Ryan Houle will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Friday, September 22, 2006, at Bastian & Perrott Oswald Mortuary located at 18728 Parthenia in Northridge. Funeral Service s will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2006, 10:00 a.m, at Bastian & Perrott. The Graveside service will immediately follow at Oakwood Memorial Park in Chatsworth located at 22601 Lassen St. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Love Ride Foundation in care of Harley-Davidson of Glendale.

Just wanted to reach out and thank you for sharing your life's experience.

Hopefully, we both share the gift Christ gave for all.

The first time I saw Christopher was on a football field with the Northridge Knights. The last time I saw Christopher was on a Football
field with the Northridge Knights. The journey in between those two moments in time has made my life and this world a better place. The courage and independence he displayed in living with MD was immeasurable on any superhuman scale. Rather than dwell on his condition, he chose to lead in the fight and awareness of MD. Befriended by celebrities decorated by Presidents, the people he met and friends he made lives were better from him. The Love Ride had no better ambassador. Life had no better ambassador.

The news of his passing brought a sadness across the football field. Men, women, and children were overcome with grief. A true measure of the lives he touched. We mourned the loss of someone who made our world a better place. Later that night I saw him standing tall at the pearly gates with that smile, receiving his pass from St. Peter, and firing up his Harley and riding into heaven.

This season will go on as it always does.
Christopher will no longer be on our sidelines, but he will always be in our hearts.
Thank you Christopher

the only word i can use to describe chris is: admirable. ive known chris for so many years and even though i havent seen him for a long time, i always wondered how he was doing. everytime i saw paul i was just so happy to hear what else he accomplished in life. i just remember his great smile and personality he had every time we would be at his cousin paul's house. paul and chris and i would just spend hours talking and doing nothing. and even though he was confined, it never bothered any of us three, and if paul and i did say something he would just punch us as hard as he could and everyting would be ok again. i will always remember chris for who he was as a kid and for what i heard he turned out to be as an adult: an inspiration to anyone(wheelchair or not).
chris you touched so many hearts and you will be very missed. i am very glad that i was lucky enough to have known you.
i would like to send my condolences to the houle and the davis family.

Rod, Krysti, Brandon & Kodi
We love you all so very much and want to thank you for sharing Christopher with us. He taught us so many lessons about how to live our lives, especially in the face of adversity. My proudest moment with Chris was at this year's reunion when I was giving him a back rub and he called me "Aunt Vicky'. I was so glad to be able to ease his pain, even if it was for just a few minutes. I know that Chris is up in heaven dancing to his beloved music that he so enjoyed and that someday we will all be together with him again!
Take comfort in knowing that Chris will be with you always, in your heart, in your mind, in everything that you do.
Love

Chris was an exceptional human being who gave everything he had to those around him. He overcame many obstacles and we will treasure the happy times and smiles and will be forever grateful that we knew him. My son will always remember his special "Coach" during his early years with the Northridge Knights Football Team.

He has touched our hearts and we will miss him on the Football Field.

Fondly,

The Crist Family

Whenever I would see Christopher he always had a smile. I would think to myself how amazing it was that he didn't let his illness keep him down or from all the activities he enjoyed. What a kid! I will remember him for many things but one in particular. Bill and Kathy's house 1988 - (I believe prior to his diagnosis, but for sure before his wheelchair) Christopher along with the other kids were running around the house. He came by and whirled around me. I didn't think about it much until a few days later when I came down with the Chicken Pox. I then heard he had them as well. Turn around was fair play so I (like Christopher)inadvertently exposed my brother Ken and his kids to it. We were miserable. Christopher's life here on earth was way too short, but I believe he no longer possesses the pain of his disease and is with God and all of our loved ones who have gone before us. Rod, Krysti, Brandon and Kodi please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. He will be missed by so many people who he inspired and touched. Love and God Bless, Eddie

MY best memories of Christopher are being at KAthy and Bill Beddows house .And Christopher and I would talk and he would tell me all about school and everything he was doing. HE always had a smile on his face and I loved his wonderful out look on everything. He would make me smile and for days all I could think about is how wonderful he was. And I am so glad that I was able to have the few talk s we had . It has been awhile since we have seen Christopher and you both. But we think of you often. MIss seeing you.

Christopher is now with the Lord and happy as can be . He were we all should strive to be someday. Nothing is better than Heaven.

Even though we will miss him and all the Joy he brought to everyone that was so lukcy to be a part of his life.

You are in our Prayers, Love and Blessings Ann-Renee ,Howie ,Jared and Sara Arp
