We are grateful we had the opportunity to get to know Jim as he was such a kind, gracious and caring Gentleman. Jim and Annette Boyd were the kindest people. They were always so warm and friendly and did a lot for LaGrange. The last time I saw Jim was at the Sweetland Amphitheatre Open House. He had been on oxygen for a while, but never let it slow him down. Boyd Park was aptly named for two such selfless people. I'm sure Annette welcomed him home.

So Sorry to hear of Mr. Boyd's passing. Mr. and Mrs. Boyd were fine people. I received the Uncle Sam Award from the Sweet Land of Liberty parade in 1988 and then the Christopher Columbus Award in 1992 and got to know them both in connection with the parade. They made outstanding contributions to life in Troup County. I extend my condolences to their loved ones.

I an unfamiliar as to the origin of the phrase "Gentleman Jim" nor do I know how many "Jims" have been received that moniker. However, something I do know is that Jim Boyd was certainly deserving of one bearing that title. A colleague of mine in both the New York City and LaGrange locations of Milliken & Co., Jim left a proud legacy of accomplishments. In concert with his wife, the betterment of LaGrange was his constant companion and, we who remain and those to come after us, are the grateful beneficiaries. Rest in Peace; a life's work well done.

Jim Boyd was a close friend of my father, Ed Waltemath, and after my father's death Jim became a surrogate father to my brother, Skip, who was hospitalized frequently. I have never met a more caring and thoughtful man and my family will always be grateful for the loving care he gave to Skip. We will miss him dearly.

I was the flower girl in "Jimmy" and Annette's wedding in Statesville on June 4th, as I recall. I think I was 7. I still have the tiny sterling bracelet they gave me and have always treasured it. Jim and I had a good conversation not too long ago. I will always remember him as my handsome cousin. My mother, Blanche Stanfil Boyd Engle was his aunt. May wonderful memories help sustain you through this difficult time. Cindy Engle Yavinsky, Washington, DC
