Alan Wolfe Obituary
Alan (Al) Wolfe 1932- 2023 Al Wolfe, a long-time resident of Centennial, Wyoming, passed away in the arms of his wife, Helen, on Sunday, December 31st. Al had been living in Hospice of Laramie for the last three months of his life. He died of Alzheimer's disease. . Hospice of Laramie can be credited with providing refuge, a nest, for both Al and Helen during the saddest time of their life together.
Alan was born in Kleenburn, Wyoming, and grew up in Sheridan, Wyoming. Al attended grade school and high school in Sheridan. He joined the Navy after graduation and later attended the University of Wyoming on the G.I.Bill. During his senior year he was elected Vice President of the Student Body. Upon graduation he began his career in brand management for Proctor and Gamble and retired as President of the U.S. Division of DDB Needham advertising agency with offices in New York City, Chicago, and London.
Upon retirement, Al moved to Sedona, Arizona, where he became a community leader. He spearheaded numerous community projects and buildings for community needs including, the library, medical center, cultural park, and performing arts pavilion. He was president of all the major boards in the community and a champion of Sedona's most worthy causes. It is in Sedona that he met Helen, his wife of 26 years.
As an alumnus of the University of Wyoming, he served on many boards and committees to enhance the university's mission. He was chairman of the board which created and built and funded The American Heritage Center which also houses the University of Wyoming Art Museum.. He was president of The University of Wyoming Foundation. He received the Distinguished Alumni Award, and The President's Award for Outstanding Contributions to the University. Although he worked and lived in other states, Wyoming was always "home" to Al. He built a summer cabin in Centennial so he could spend summers in the state he loved..After living in Sedona for 24 years, Al and Helen moved full time to Centennial when he began suffering with dementia. The natural beauty, slowed lifestyle, and the river which ran by their home gave him hours of contentment. His ashes will be laid at his request by the river. He asked that no service or memorial be held.
He was a loved and loving husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather.. He will be remembered for his integrity, his generous character, straight talking, and the ability to look forward, not backward. He was a man who made a positive difference in every sphere of his life.
