Edward Janov Obituary

JANOV, Edward Jay was born on June 25, 1925. Passed away on February 3, 2008.
Born in Pennsylvania, but raised in the Bronx, New York, he enlisted in the US Navy in 1943 and was decorated with the America Area medal, the Victory medal and the Asiatic Pacific medal before being honorably discharged in 1946 after which he graduated from the City College of New York with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He used this degree to pursue his life-long passion of aviation by securing a job with McDonnell Douglas and moving his family from NY to Southern California. He worked for McDonnell Douglas and Lockheed aircraft as a flight test engineer on DC 8's, the A3D Skywarrior and the Navy SR38. After being promoted to Sr. Engineering Scientist on the Apollo and Saturn programs he resigned from Douglas and changed career paths to start up Western Aero-Marine (later Dolphin Yacht Sales) in 1969, a company specializing in sailboat and recreational aircraft sales in Marina del Rey, CA, which he operated for 21 years. He was also a founder of the Marina State Bank and the California Yacht Brokers Association. He is survived by his wife, Maria Janov, his daughter, Jessica Tropp, his son, Jay Janov, his son-in-law, William Tropp, his daughter-in-law, Heather Janov, and his grandchildren, Ryan, Grant and Jordan Janov Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 6th, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. at Hillside Memorial Park and Mortuary, (800) 576-1994. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be made to the American Diabetes Foundation.

Jeff, Jill and Mary,

Kelly just called me to tell me about your father's passing. I am sorry to hear the news and my condolences go out to all of you. Ed was a good man who taught me a lot of things during a rough stage of my life. I'm sure he's in a better place now. Kindest Regards,
