Jack Buehn was one of the best pleasure and commercial fisherman on the Pacific Coast.

He often was the Captain for the "Kingfisher" a yacht/sport fisher owned by Bing Crosby.

He was an innovator and skilled at boat design. He built one of the first commercial fishing vessels built out of plywood VS wood plank or metal and for the most part pre-dating the use of fiberglass.

He often would run his own personal 30' boat -- the predecessor to his commercial plywood large vessel -- out 100 miles to San Nicholas Island in an era where going to Catalina Island 26 miles from shore was a big deal. There were copious numbers of white seabass, yellowtail, etc. to be had in that era.

His commercial boat caught fire and burned off of Catalina Island. After this he built a more conventional diesel powered plywood vessel.

He was a very commanding slender man with piercing eyes. He often had his dad on board, during the '50's fishing trips. His father had been a farmer.

His boats were named after his wife Louise.
