Pauline Ann Gleason

Age 83, of Arcadia, CA, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2013 of complications from Alzheimer's disease. Born in Saco, Maine, Pauline was the daughter of Edric Fairfield Stewart and Ruth B. Chadbourne. She graduated valedictorian from Pennell Institute in Grey, Maine, and received her license as a Registered Nurse in Maine in 1952. Pauline married Denis Jerald Gleason in 1953 and they raised their family in the South Bay and Rolling Hills Estates, California, where they lived for almost 50 years. A few years after Denis passed away in 1993, Pauline moved to Arcadia California to be near her daughters and four of her grandchildren. Pauline returned to school in 1975 after raising her family, earning a Bachelors Degree in Philosophy followed by a Masters Degree summa cum laude in English Literature from CSU Dominguez Hills. She traveled extensively with her husband and visited the Philippines, Japan, much of Europe and South America, as well as many trips throughout the United States. Pauline was active in the community as well, and was a member of the Diana's, League of Women Voters, and Las Vecinas in Palos Verdes. Pauline is survived by her brother Walter F. Stewart of Carlsbad, CA, her four children, Denis George Gleason of San Rafael, CA; James Allen Gleason of Clifton, VA; Suzanne Gleason Nuzzi of Pasadena, CA; and Ruth Gleason Black of Arcadia, CA, and seven grandchildren: James Jr., Ryan and Connor Gleason; Katie and Anna Nuzzi; and Taylor and Daniel Black. A memorial service honoring Pauline will be held at Cabot & Son's Funeral Home, 27 Chestnut Street, Pasadena, CA, 91103 on Sunday, November 10th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, tribute gifts may be made in Pauline's name to the Mary S. Easton Center for Alzheimer's Disease Research at UCLA at www.eastonad.ucla.edu
