Ruth Aura Ross

1933 - 2016

October 29, 1933 - June 22, 2016 Ruth Ross was born in Long Beach, CA and died in Los Angeles, CA. Ruth lived most of her life in Silver Lake. She went to Ivanhoe Elementary, King Middle School and Marshall High. Ruth earned a Bachelor's Degree from Los Angeles City College in journalism, then a Ph.D. from USC in political science. She taught political science at CSU Long Beach, UC Santa Barbara and Claremont Men's College. Throughout her life, Ruth dedicated herself to various causes, especially women's roles in public administration. She supported arts and architectural organizations such as Barnsdall Art Park and was a patron of the Alice and Eleonore Schoenfeld Endowed Scholarship Fund for Strings Students at USC. Ruth is remembered as an energetic, optimistic, stylish and profoundly generous person with a fierce commitment to positive social change. Ruth's memorial service will be held on October 22 at Orange Grove Friends Meeting House, 520 E. Orange Grove Blvd., Pasadena, CA 91104 at 2pm. Donations may be made in her name to Doctors Without Borders.
