Sofia Adamson Obituary

ADAMSON , Sofia
Sofia Adamson died Saturday May 19, 2007 at Huntington Memorial Hospital at the age of 90. She will be greatly missed.
Born Sofia De Mos in Idaho August 1916, Sofia moved to Los Angeles with her parents. In 1937 she received a Bachelor of Education from UCLA . In 1939 she founded the College of Education at Adamson University in Philippines. Badly injured in the Philippines during WWII Sofia returned to Pasadena California where she committed the rest of her life supporting the city's arts and culture programs which culminated with her co-founding the Pacific Asia Museum in Pasadena. He memoirs entitled Gods, Angels, Pearls and Roses which she published in 1982 highlight her experiences during WWII. She was married to her late husband George Athos Adamson for 64 years.
She will be remembered as a devoted wife, intellectual, world traveler, writer and philanthropist and loving aunt to her 27 nieces and nephews.

Her husband is the founder of my alma mater, Adamson University of Manila, Philippines. Her loss is, of course, my university's loss. She and her husband, the late George Lucas Adamson, have had tremendous impact upon the educational scene during the 1930s here in the Philippines.
