Thomas Harrer Obituary

October 15, 1930 - January 2, 2017 Thomas ("Tom") James Harrer passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara, their two children Richard Thomas Harrer (Janet) and Lori Jean Harrer Densmore (Stephen), grandchildren Alison Suzanne Born (David) and John Thomas Marshall, great grandchildren Quentin Marshall and James Born and Tom's siblings Marilyn, Doris, Dorothy, Catherine, and Jack. Tom was born on October 15, 1930 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the fourth child of Louis and Ann Harrer. He graduated from DeLaSalle high school in 1948 and soon thereafter entered into a seven-year apprenticeship in graphic arts. Tom served with honor and distinction as part of the Army, 45th Infantry, Heavy Weapons Division on the front lines of the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 and was awarded the Bronze Star. As a young man, Tom was athletic, competing as an amateur boxer. Tom worked in the graphic arts field for over 40 years and after retiring, he donated his services as a volunteer at Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Woodland Hills, California. He served as an usher and was on the church council at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. He devoted himself to being a faithful and inspiring mentor, friend, and loving husband and father. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 21 at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church located in West Hills, California.
